Birds, kings & alchemists! This programme is inspired by stories of madness, misplaced ambition and royal figures who lose control. Fittingly, all the music is by British composers of the modern era. The centrepiece of the evening is Peter Maxwell Davies’s Eight Songs for a Mad King, a music-theatre monodrama written in 1969.
